This WebP to PNG converter turns .webp images into PNG files inside your browser. WebP is the format many websites use for logos, product cut-outs, stickers and icons, and those pictures often have a transparent background. Convert them to JPG and the background turns white; convert WebP to PNG and the transparency stays exactly where it was. PNG is also the format that design tools, older image editors, office programs and game mods accept without trouble, and it is lossless, so the picture won’t get worse while you edit it. Here you can change .webp to PNG one by one or 30 at once, for free, without an extension and without uploading anything. Below we explain what the tool does with the transparent pixels, when PNG is the wrong choice, and how big the PNG will be.
How does the WebP to PNG converter work?
Your browser decodes the WebP into pixels, including the alpha channel that stores how see-through each pixel is. The tool creates a canvas of exactly the same width and height. For PNG output it leaves the canvas empty (fully transparent) instead of filling it with white, draws the picture on top and saves the canvas as PNG with the browser’s built-in encoder. Because nothing is painted underneath, every transparent and half-transparent pixel keeps its alpha value. PNG is lossless, so there is no quality slider; the pixels in the PNG are the pixels the WebP decoded to. The name keeps its first part, so logo.webp becomes logo.png.
Worked example (measured). On 3 November 2026 in Chrome on a Windows PC we converted a 1200×800 WebP photo of 70.2 KB to PNG. The PNG was 859.9 KB, about 12 times bigger, with the same 1200×800 pixels. The same picture as JPG at 92% was 150.5 KB. That is why we say: PNG for graphics and transparency, JPG for photos.
How to use
Add your .webp images
Drop, choose or paste (Ctrl+V) WebP files into the box, up to 30 at once. Logos, stickers, screenshots and photos all work.
PNG is already chosen
Each image is converted to lossless PNG straight away, with transparency kept. Open More options if you want JPG or WebP instead.
Download the PNG files
Click Download on each row, or Download all (ZIP) for two or more. Copy summary copies the names and sizes.
Why VidHaul
Transparency kept
The tool never paints a background for PNG output, so the see-through parts of a logo, sticker or cut-out stay see-through.
Lossless from here on
PNG stores every pixel exactly. Crop, annotate and save it in your editor as often as you like without it getting worse.
Works with older software
PNG opens in practically every editor, office program, design tool and game mod, including those that don’t read WebP.
Free, private, no extension
No browser extension or app to install. The conversion runs on your own device: no upload, no sign-up, no watermark.
Measured in our own Chrome test with the converter’s settings. The test picture is a generated photo-like image. Logos, icons and stickers with flat colours become far smaller PNGs than this; photos are the worst case for PNG.
You can switch between JPG, PNG and WebP under More options at any time; the list converts again by itself.
Does WebP to PNG keep transparency? Yes, and here is how to check
WebP stores transparency with an 8-bit alpha channel, which means each pixel can be anything from fully see-through to fully solid, with 254 steps in between. PNG supports the same kind of alpha channel, so the conversion can keep it exactly. To check, open the PNG in your editor or place it on a coloured slide: if you see the colour behind it and no white box, the transparency came through.
One thing to know: if the WebP itself has a white background (many product photos do), there is no transparency to keep, and the PNG will have that white background too. A format change never removes a background.
How to convert .webp to PNG on Windows, Mac, Android and iPhone
Windows
Drag the .webp files from File Explorer into the box in Chrome, Edge or Firefox. Paint can open some WebP files and save as PNG, but one at a time; here a batch of 30 takes one drop.
Mac
Drag the files from Finder into the box in Safari, Chrome or Firefox. Preview can also export single files; this page is quicker for many.
Android and iPhone
Open the page in Chrome or Safari, tap the box and choose the files from Downloads, the gallery, Photos or Files. The PNG files are saved to Downloads or the Files app.
WebP to PNG extension or an online converter?
Some people search for a “WebP to PNG extension” for their browser. You don’t need one. Extensions ask for permission to read the pages you visit; this page asks for nothing and only sees the files you choose to drop in. Save the WebP images you need, drop them here, and download the PNG files. It works the same in every current browser, on every device, without installing anything.
Convert WebP to PNG for editing, printing and design work
PNG is the safe working format when a WebP picture is only the starting point. A few common cases:
Slides and documents. Older office programs may not insert WebP at all; a PNG logo with transparency sits cleanly on a coloured slide.
Design and editing apps. If your editor refuses WebP, convert to PNG, edit there, and export to the final format only at the end. Each extra lossy save would cost detail; PNG saves don’t.
Stickers, emoji and game mods. Many sticker makers, chat emoji uploads and game texture folders expect PNG with transparency.
Printing. Print shops and photo kiosks often list only JPG and PNG. For a logo or text, PNG keeps the edges sharp.
For a whole set, such as a brand kit saved from a website, drop all files at once and use Download all (ZIP): every PNG keeps the name of its WebP, so nothing gets mixed up.
If the PNG is too large
A WebP photo can become a heavy PNG, as the 859.9 KB example shows. If a website or app refuses the file because of its size, there are two good options:
Fewer pixels. Make the picture smaller with the image resizer and choose PNG under More options there. A logo rarely needs to be more than about 1000 px wide.
A lossy format. If transparency isn’t needed, a JPG made with the image compressor hits an exact KB target. If transparency is needed and the site accepts WebP, keep the WebP.
How accurate is the WebP to PNG converter?
The PNG has the same width, height and pixel colours as the decoded WebP, with the alpha channel kept. Limits to know about:
No detail is added. A blurry or tiny WebP becomes a blurry or tiny PNG; lossy WebP marks are copied as they are.
The PNG is not the smallest possible. The browser’s PNG encoder is built for speed. In our Chrome test it saved a 4.5 KB PNG logo again as 14.9 KB with the same 800×600 pixels. If every kilobyte matters, a dedicated PNG optimiser can shrink the file further without changing pixels.
Animation becomes one frame. An animated WebP gives one still PNG of the first frame.
Hidden data is not copied. The PNG is a fresh file made from the pixels, so camera details and location stored in the WebP are left out.
Why this tool is different
Typical online WebP to PNG converters upload your images to a server and send PNG files back, which can be slow because the PNGs are large. Here, your own browser reads the WebP and writes the PNG on your device, so nothing travels over the internet in either direction. Your logos, product pictures and screenshots are never stored anywhere else, and after the page has loaded the conversion works offline.
The tool also handles transparency in a way you can check in the code’s behaviour: for PNG and WebP output it never paints a background; only for JPG output does it fill white first. And it shows the real PNG size in every row, so you know before uploading it somewhere that a photo may have become too heavy.
What we measure
The tool reads each file’s size in bytes and its width and height, converts it and shows the new size and pixel size; 1 KB is 1000 bytes. We do not remove or add backgrounds, sharpen, upscale, optimise the PNG further or collect anything about your images.
Drop the .webp file into the box at the top of this page. PNG is preselected, so the PNG appears straight away; click Download or Download all (ZIP).
Does WebP to PNG keep the transparent background?
Yes. Both formats support transparency, and the tool doesn’t add a background for PNG, so see-through areas stay see-through.
Do I need a WebP to PNG extension?
No. This page works in any current browser without installing anything, and your files are not sent to a server.
How to convert WebP to PNG on Mac?
Open this page in Safari, Chrome or Firefox and drag the .webp files from Finder into the box. The PNG files go to your Downloads folder.
Why is the PNG file much larger than the .webp?
WebP usually compresses pictures far more, while PNG keeps every pixel. In our test a 70.2 KB WebP photo became an 859.9 KB PNG; logos and graphics grow much less.
Should I convert WebP to PNG or JPG?
Choose PNG for logos, icons, stickers, screenshots and anything with transparency or that you will edit. Choose JPG for ordinary photos where a small file matters.
Can I convert an animated WebP to PNG?
Only the first frame of an animated WebP is converted, so you get one still PNG.
Is this WebP to PNG converter free?
Yes. It is free with no account, no watermark and no limit on how many images you convert.
