MP3 to MP4 Converter with Image for YouTube and Sharing

Turn an MP3 or other audio file into an MP4 video with your own cover picture, right in your browser.

This MP3 to MP4 converter turns a song, podcast or voice recording into a video with a still picture. Many places only accept video: YouTube will not take a plain MP3, social posts expect a video, and chat apps show audio as a plain attachment. When you convert MP3 to MP4 with an image, the sound plays over your cover picture from the first second to the last. Choose the audio, add a JPG or PNG cover if you like, press Start and download the MP4. It is a free MP3 to MP4 converter that runs in your browser, so your files are not uploaded and nothing is installed. M4A, WAV, OGG, OPUS, AAC and FLAC work too.

How does the MP3 to MP4 converter work?

The tool draws one picture on a 1280x720 (16:9) canvas in your browser. If you picked a cover, it is scaled to fit inside the frame without stretching or cropping, and any empty space is black. Without a cover it draws a dark card with an orange circle and the file name. That picture is encoded as H.264 video at 1 frame per second (VP9 for WebM), for exactly as long as the audio lasts. The sound is encoded as AAC at 192 kbps (Opus for WebM), and both are packed into one MP4 file.

Because the picture never changes, the video part is tiny and the file size is mostly the audio. A worked example, computed from these settings: a 3-minute song gives 192 kbps x 180 s / 8 = 4,320 KB of audio, about 4.3 MB, plus a small amount for the picture. A 3-minute MP3 at 128 kbps is 2.9 MB, so the MP4 will be a little bigger than that MP3; the extra size does not make the sound better.

How to use

  1. Choose your audio

Drop or choose an MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG, OPUS, AAC or FLAC file. The page shows its name and size.

  2. Add a cover image

Optional: press Choose file next to Cover image and pick a JPG or PNG. Without one you get a simple title card.

  3. Pick a format if needed

MP4 is the default. Open More options to save as MOV, MKV or WebM instead.

  4. Start and download

Press Start, wait for the progress bar, then Download the video or press Convert another file.

Why VidHaul

Your own cover picture

A JPG or PNG is fitted into a 1280x720 frame without stretching. No image? You get a dark card with the file name.

Many audio formats

MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG, OPUS, AAC and FLAC all work, so songs, podcasts and voice recordings can become videos.

Small video files

The still picture is stored at 1 frame per second, so almost all of the file is the sound itself.

No upload, no watermark

The video is built in your browser. Your audio and image stay on your device, with no sign-up and no logo.

How to convert MP3 to MP4 with an image

  1. Choose the audio. Click the box at the top or drag your MP3 onto it. You will see its name and size. Use Change file to pick another.
  2. Add the cover image. Next to Cover image (optional), press Choose file and pick a JPG or PNG: album art, a podcast logo, a photo or a slide.
  3. Choose the format. MP4 is the usual choice. To make MOV, MKV or WebM, open More options. Formats your browser cannot create are hidden.
  4. Press Start, then Download. The progress bar shows how far it is, with Cancel if you change your mind. The video is saved with a name based on the audio file.

If you skip the cover image, the video shows a dark card with the file name (up to 60 characters), which is fine for quick sharing. Rename the audio file first if you want a nicer title on the card.

How your cover image fits the video

The video is always 1280x720. Your image keeps its shape and is made as large as possible inside that frame. Images with a different shape get black bars. This table shows what happens to common image shapes:

Image shapeExample sizeShown atBlack barsFrame filled

Computed from the settings the tool uses: the image is scaled by the smaller of 1280 / width and 720 / height and centred on a black 1280x720 frame.

For the cleanest result, use a 16:9 landscape image of at least 1280x720. A smaller image is scaled up to fit and can look soft. A PNG with transparent areas shows black behind them.

MP3 to MP4 for YouTube upload

YouTube’s own help page says audio files such as MP3, WAV or PCM cannot be uploaded to create a video, and suggests converting them to a video first. That is exactly what this tool does. Some tips for YouTube:

  • Use a 16:9 image so it fills the player with no bars.
  • Put the song title or your channel name on the image itself before you add it. The tool does not add text on top of your cover.
  • MP4 is the safest format for upload. AAC, the audio inside the MP4, is one of the audio codecs YouTube recommends.
  • Only upload music you own or have permission to use. Copyright checks also apply to audio-only videos.

How big will the MP4 be?

Almost all of the size is the audio at 192 kbps, which is 1.44 MB per minute. The picture adds a little on top, depending on how detailed your image is.

Audio lengthAudio part of the MP4Same length as a 128 kbps MP3
1 minute1.4 MB1.0 MB
3 minutes4.3 MB2.9 MB
5 minutes7.2 MB4.8 MB
10 minutes14.4 MB9.6 MB
60 minutes86.4 MB57.6 MB

Computed from the settings the tool uses (kbps x seconds / 8, 1 MB = 1,000,000 bytes). If the video must be smaller to send, make it first and then use the video compressor, or shorten the audio with the MP3 cutter before converting.

Add MP3 to MP4: putting a song on an existing video

Some people searching for “add MP3 to MP4” or “how to merge MP3 and MP4” already have a video and want music on it. That is a different job: use add music to video, which keeps your moving video and replaces or mixes its sound with the MP3. This page is for when you only have audio and need a video made from it. For the opposite direction, getting the sound out of a video, use MP4 to MP3.

MP3 to MP4 converter on Android, iPhone and PC

No download is needed. On Android, open the page in Chrome and pick the song from your files and the cover from your gallery. On iPhone, open it in Safari; choose audio saved in the Files app and a picture from Photos or Files. On a computer, drag the audio onto the box. Long recordings, such as a one-hour lecture, are much faster on a laptop than on a phone.

Who uses an audio to video converter?

  • Musicians sharing a new song or demo with album art.
  • Podcasters posting an episode with their show logo.
  • Teachers and students turning a recorded lesson or speech into a video for a class group.
  • Families sending a recorded message with a photo, so it shows up as a video in chat.

How accurate is the MP3 to MP4 converter?

The video lasts exactly as long as the audio: the last picture frame is shortened to end with the sound. The sound is re-encoded, not copied, so a lossy file loses a very small amount of detail, which is hard to hear at 192 kbps. Other limits:

  • Only one still picture. No slideshow, no moving waveform, no text on top.
  • The frame is always 1280x720 landscape. There is no square or vertical option; for a vertical video, use resize video afterwards.
  • The cover is fitted, never cropped, so other shapes get black bars.
  • Unusual audio codecs may not open in your browser; the page then shows an error.
  • Very long audio on a phone is slow, and very large files (over about 1.5 GB) may fail on phones.

Why this tool is different

Many “audio to video” sites upload your song and your picture to a server and build the video there. VidHaul builds it inside your browser. The cover is drawn on a canvas on your device, encoded with the browser’s own video encoder (WebCodecs), and joined with your audio there. Unreleased songs, lectures and personal voice messages never leave your computer or phone.

The settings are fixed and stated openly, so you can check them: 1280x720 frame, 1 frame per second, AAC 192 kbps in MP4, MOV and MKV, Opus 192 kbps in WebM, image fitted on black. A low frame rate is a deliberate choice: a still picture does not need 30 frames per second, and fewer frames keep the file small and quick to make.

What we measure

After each conversion the page shows the size of your audio file and the size of the video, with a Copy summary button. The sizes and frame-fill numbers on this page are computed from the tool’s own settings. We have not measured how much the picture adds for every kind of image, so we only say it is small next to the audio. We do not see your files and do not collect statistics about them, because nothing is uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

How to convert MP3 to MP4?

Choose your MP3 on this page, add a cover image if you like, and press Start. When the progress bar finishes, click Download to save the MP4 video.

How to convert MP3 to MP4 with image?

After choosing the audio, press Choose file next to Cover image and pick a JPG or PNG. The picture is fitted into the 1280x720 video and shown for the whole length of the audio.

Can I upload an MP3 to YouTube?

No. YouTube’s help says audio files such as MP3 cannot be uploaded to create a video. Converting the MP3 to an MP4 with a cover image gives you a video file you can upload.

Is there a free MP3 to MP4 converter download for Android?

You do not need to download one. Open this page in Chrome on Android, pick the song and a picture from your gallery or files, and press Start; the MP4 is saved to your downloads.

What is the best converter for MP3 to MP4?

For a song or podcast with one still picture, a simple converter like this is enough. If you want moving pictures, text animation or several images, you need a video editor.

Does the sound quality change?

The sound is encoded again as AAC at 192 kbps for MP4, MOV and MKV, or Opus at 192 kbps for WebM. That is good quality for listening, but it cannot be better than your original file.

Is this MP3 to MP4 converter free?

Yes. It is free with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many videos you make.
