This ringtone maker turns the best part of any song into a ringtone in about a minute. It works as a ringtone maker online, inside your browser, so there is no ringtone maker app to install and your music is never uploaded. Choose a song or a video, mark the part you love, keep the soft fade switched on and save it as an MP3 ringtone for Android or an M4R ringtone for iPhone. You can use the same file as a notification or alarm sound. Default ringtones get boring, and when every phone in a room plays the same tune, nobody knows whose is ringing. A 30-second cut of your favourite chorus, a line from a film you recorded, or your own band’s song fixes that.
How does the ringtone maker work?
When you press Start, the tool decodes only the part between your start and end times into plain audio samples, using the media engine in your browser. Then it shapes the volume with the Web Audio API. With “Fade in & out” ticked, the volume rises in a straight line from silence to full at the start and falls back to silence at the end. Each fade lasts 1.5 seconds, or a quarter of the ringtone if the ringtone is shorter than 6 seconds. Finally the shaped sound is encoded: MP3 and M4R at 192 kbps, WAV as uncompressed 16-bit audio.
A worked example from our own test on 24 October 2026: we cut 2 s to 7 s from an M4A song. The 5-second MP3 was 118 KB and the 5-second M4R was 120 KB. The formula 192 kbps x 5 s / 8 gives 120 KB, so the real files match the setting. A full 30-second ringtone at 192 kbps comes to about 720 KB, which is small enough for any phone.

How to make a ringtone with ringtone maker
Choose your song. Click the box at the top or drag the file onto it. Audio files like MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG, AAC and FLAC work, and so do video files. You will see the file name, the size and an audio player. Use Change file to pick a different one.
Mark your part. Play the song. When it reaches the moment you want, press Set start here. The End box is already set to 30 seconds (or the full length of a shorter file). Play on and press Set end here if you want a different end. You can also type the times, for example Start 62.5 and End 90.
Check the options. “Fade in & out” is ticked. The output is MP3; to choose M4R for iPhone or WAV, open More options.
Press Start, then Download. A progress bar with Cancel shows the progress. The file is saved with a name like song-ringtone.mp3 or song-ringtone.m4r.
Ringtone maker for iPhone: M4R ringtones
iPhones use the M4R format for ringtones. An M4R file is AAC audio in an MP4 file with a different name ending, and that is exactly what this tool makes when you pick M4R. Keep the ringtone at 30 seconds or less: Apple’s GarageBand for iPhone guide says ringtones exported there can be at most 30 seconds, so that is the safe length.
How to use ringtone maker on iPhone
Open this page in Safari, tap the file box and choose a song saved in the Files app. Mark your part, choose M4R under More options and download. Songs inside streaming apps are protected and cannot be picked as files, so you need a song file you actually have.
Getting the ringtone onto the iPhone
This is the part Apple controls. In general there are two ways people use: Apple’s GarageBand app on the iPhone, which can share a song as a ringtone, or connecting the iPhone to a computer and syncing the M4R with Finder on a Mac or the Apple software on Windows. Exact steps change between iOS and computer versions, so follow Apple’s current guides (linked under Sources) if a menu looks different. Once the tone is on the phone, it appears in Settings, Sounds & Haptics, Ringtone, and you can also set it for one contact in the Contacts app.
Ringtone maker for Android: MP3 ringtones
Android phones are simpler. Keep MP3 as the output, make your ringtone and download it. It goes to your Downloads folder. Then open Settings, Sound (sometimes “Sound and vibration”), tap Phone ringtone and pick the file. Many phones have a “My sounds” list or a + button for adding your own sound. Menu names differ between Samsung, Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo, Realme, Pixel and other brands, but the idea is the same. The same MP3 can be a notification or alarm sound. Ringtones inside chat apps such as WhatsApp are set in that app’s own settings.

Sizes are computed from the settings the tool uses (bitrate x seconds / 8; WAV at 48,000 samples x 2 channels x 2 bytes per second). If your browser cannot create a format, its button under More options is hidden.
How long the fade lasts
The fade is fixed, not adjustable, but it scales for very short ringtones so the sound never fades for longer than it plays. The chart shows the length of each fade (start and end are the same) for different ringtone lengths.
Computed from the settings the tool uses: each fade lasts 1.5 seconds or a quarter of the ringtone, whichever is shorter.
For a typical 20 to 30-second ringtone you hear 1.5 seconds of fade at each end, so the tune starts gently and loops back without a hard jump. Untick “Fade in & out” if you want the sound to start at full volume, for example for a short alert that must be heard at once.
Make a ringtone from a video
Heard a tune in a video you saved, or want a line from a family clip as your ringtone? Choose the video file here. The ringtone maker uses its sound track and ignores the picture. MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM and most other videos your browser can read work. If the video has no sound, the page tells you. If you want the full sound of the video as an MP3 as well, use video to MP3.
Name ringtone maker: can you make a ringtone with your name?
A lot of people look for a name ringtone maker. This tool does not create speech from typed text, and it has no AI voice. What it can do is cut a real recording. Record someone saying the name, or a short greeting, with your phone’s voice recorder, then choose that recording here, trim it and save it as MP3 or M4R. If the recording is quiet, record it again closer to the microphone; this tool does not make sound louder.
Tips for a ringtone people notice
Start on the hook. The first two or three seconds are what you hear most, so start right on the chorus or the most recognisable line, not on a quiet intro.
Keep it 20 to 30 seconds. Most calls are answered or missed within that time.
Pick a loud, clear part. Soft passages are easy to miss in a bus, a market or a busy office.
Make a short version for alerts. A 2 to 5-second cut with the fade off works well as a message tone.
Ringtone maker app or online?
Ringtone maker apps often show ads and ask for access to your storage. This page needs no install and only reads the one file you choose. It works in up-to-date Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox on phones and computers. An app can still make sense if you want a waveform editor or a library of ready-made tones, which this tool does not have. For a plain cut without a fade, in more formats, use the MP3 cutter.
How accurate is the ringtone maker?
Start and End are used to the tenth of a second. The Set start here and Set end here buttons take the player’s current time and round it to 0.1 seconds, so your reaction when tapping the button matters more than the tool. Type the numbers for exact cuts.
MP3 and M4R are lossy at 192 kbps. On a phone speaker the difference from the original is very hard to hear, but it is not a perfect copy. There is no bitrate choice in this tool.
The output is always stereo at 48 kHz. A mono voice note becomes the same voice on both sides.
The tool does not stop you from making a ringtone longer than 30 seconds. If an iPhone or GarageBand rejects or shortens a long tone, cut it to 30 seconds.
It cannot change the volume level apart from the fades, cannot remove vocals and cannot improve a poor recording.
Unusual audio codecs may not open in your browser; the page shows an error instead of a broken file.
Why this tool is different
Many online ringtone makers upload your song to a server and send a ringtone back. Here, your browser does the work. The page decodes the part you chose with the browser’s media engine, applies the fade with the Web Audio API and encodes the ringtone on your device. Your music never leaves your phone or computer, so there is no upload wait and nobody else stores a copy.
It also does a few specific things that you can check yourself: the end time starts at 30 seconds because that is a safe ringtone length; the fade is 1.5 seconds and shrinks for short tones; M4R is offered because that is the iPhone ringtone format; and MP3 and M4R come out at 192 kbps, which you can confirm from the file size shown after each ringtone.
What we measure
After each ringtone, the result shows the file size before and after, with a Copy summary button. The figures on this page come from our own test on 24 October 2026 in Chrome on a desktop (a 5-second cut from an M4A: 118 KB as MP3, 120 KB as M4R) and from the formulas in the tool’s settings (bitrate, sample rate and fade times). We do not track what songs you use, how many ringtones you make or which format you pick, because nothing is uploaded. We do not rate sound quality; that depends on your source file and your phone speaker.
