A reversed clip is one of the easiest ways to make a video fun to watch. Water jumps back into a glass, a person walks backwards up the stairs, a cake un-eats itself. People use the effect for Reels, TikTok, Shorts, WhatsApp Status and memes. This tool lets you reverse video online in a few clicks: choose a clip, press Start and download a video that plays from the end to the beginning, with the sound reversed too. It is a simple reverse video maker for anyone who just wants to play a video in reverse without opening a full editor. It is free, it works in Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox on phones and computers, and your clip is never uploaded, because the reversing happens on your own device.
How does reverse video work?
Video files are made to be read forwards. Most frames only store the changes from the frame before, so the tool cannot simply jump to the last frame and step back one at a time. Instead it works in pieces of one second, starting at the end. It decodes the last second of the video, keeps those frames in memory, writes them out in reverse order, then moves one second earlier and repeats until it reaches the start. Each frame is encoded again into the new file (H.264 for MP4, MOV and MKV, VP9 for WebM).
To keep memory use reasonable, the output is limited to 720 pixels on the short side; smaller videos keep their size. The sound is decoded in full and its samples are put in the opposite order, then saved at 128 kbps (AAC, or Opus for WebM). The reversed video is exactly as long as the original.
Worked example (our own test, 24 October 2026, Chrome on a desktop): we made a 4-second test clip whose colour ramps from dark to bright red. In the reversed file, the first frame had a red value of 254 and the last frame 5, so the ramp ran backwards from bright to dark, exactly as expected.
How to use
Choose your video
Click the box or drag the clip onto it. You see the file name, size and a preview.
Press Start
The clip is reversed from the last frame to the first. MP4 is the default; open More options to pick MOV, MKV or WebM.
Download
When the progress bar finishes, click Download to save the reversed video, or Convert another file.
Why VidHaul
Picture and sound reversed
Both the video and the audio play backwards, so speech and music sound reversed too, like the classic rewind effect.
No app needed
Works in Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox on iPhone, Android, Windows and Mac. No editor to install.
Same length as the original
The reversed clip is exactly as long as the original. Large videos are scaled to at most 720p on the short side to keep it fast.
Private, no watermark
Your clip is reversed on your own device. Nothing is uploaded, there is no sign-up and no watermark on the result.
How to reverse a video
Click the box at the top of the page or drag the video onto it.
Press Start. There are no other settings to choose; if you need MOV, MKV or WebM instead of MP4, open More options first.
Watch the progress bar. When it reaches 100%, click Download.
Your original file is not changed. If you want to reverse a different part, cut it first and run it again.
How to reverse a video on iPhone
You can reverse a video on iPhone without installing an editor. Open this page in Safari, tap the file box, choose the clip from your photo library or the Files app and press Start. When it finishes, tap Download. The file goes to the Downloads folder in Files, and you can save it to Photos from the share menu. Keep Safari open and on screen while it works, because iOS may pause tabs in the background. Short clips reverse quickly on recent iPhones.
How to reverse a video on Android
Open this page in Chrome, choose the video from your gallery or file manager and press Start. The reversed MP4 lands in your Downloads folder and shows up in most gallery apps. Phones have less memory than computers, so keep clips short; the page warns you when a file is over about 1.5 GB.
How to reverse a video on PC or Mac
Open the page in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari and drag the clip onto the box. A computer is the fastest option, especially if your clip is longer than a few seconds, and there is nothing to install.
How to reverse video in CapCut or Premiere Pro, or without them
CapCut and Premiere Pro can reverse a clip as part of a bigger editing project, and many people search how to reverse a video in CapCut or Premiere Pro for that reason. If all you need is one reversed clip, opening a full editor is slow, and on a phone it means installing an app. This page does only the reverse step. You can then import the reversed file into CapCut, Premiere Pro or any other editor and keep working there.
How to reverse a video for TikTok, Snapchat, Reels and Shorts
Reverse the clip here, download it, and upload the reversed file like any normal video. Because the effect is saved in the file, it plays backwards on every app. For vertical apps, a vertical clip stays vertical. If you need to change the shape, use resize video after reversing. For a boomerang feel, join the normal and reversed clips with the video merger and repeat the result with loop video.
What size will the reversed video be?
The reverse step has to hold one second of decoded frames in memory at a time. Decoded frames are raw pixels, about 4 bytes per pixel, so their size grows fast with resolution. That is why the output is capped at 720p on the short side.
Raw memory for one second of 30 fps frames held during reversing, computed as width × height × 4 bytes × 30 frames (1280×720, 1920×1080, 3840×2160). The tool uses the 720p row; this is a computed estimate, not a measurement of a browser.
Your video

1280×720 (unchanged)
854×480 (480p)

The shape is always kept. For phone screens and social apps, 720p still looks sharp.
What happens to the sound when you reverse a video?
The audio is reversed as well. Speech becomes the familiar backwards gibberish and music sounds strange, which is often part of the fun. The sound stays in sync with the picture because both run backwards from the same end point. If you would rather have silence, use mute video on the result, or replace the sound with a song using add music to video.
Best clips to reverse
Reversing works best on short clips, ideally under a minute or two. If you have a long recording, cut out the part you want first with the video cutter, then reverse just that piece. Good ideas for the effect: pouring or splashing water, jumping into a pool, throwing something into the air, writing on a board, blocks falling down, or a dance move. You can also slow the reversed clip down with change video speed for a dramatic rewind.
Reverse video vs. reverse video search
These sound alike but are different things. A reverse video search tries to find where a video, or a still from it, appears online. This tool does not search anything; it changes your own video so it plays backwards. If you want to search for the source of a clip, a common way is to save a clear frame with video to JPG and use that image in an image search engine.
How accurate is reverse video?
The frame order is exact: the last frame becomes the first and the first becomes the last, as our brightness-ramp test showed. The length matches the original. Honest limits:
Resolution cap. Videos larger than 720p on the short side come out at 720p.
It re-encodes. Every frame is encoded again at a high quality setting. The result looks very close to the original but is not a bit-for-bit copy, and the file size changes.
Long clips. The whole sound track is held in memory, and the video is read second by second from the end, so long videos are slow and can fail on phones.
Only the first tracks. The main video track and the main sound track are used. Extra audio tracks and subtitles are not carried over.
Codecs. If your browser cannot decode the video, the page shows a message instead of making a broken file.
Why this tool is different
Most online reverse video tools upload your clip to their server, reverse it there and send it back, often with a size limit, a sign-up wall or a watermark on the free plan. VidHaul uses the WebCodecs API, the video engine built into modern browsers, to decode and encode the frames on your own computer or phone. The sound is reversed in the browser too. Nothing is uploaded, so personal clips stay personal, and once you have pressed Start the work keeps going even without an internet connection.
The method is open: it reads the video one second at a time from the end, writes those frames backwards, and caps the size at 720p so memory stays under control. It does not add effects, change the speed or touch the colours. One button, one job, a predictable result.
What we measure
We test with real files in a real browser. For reverse video we use a test clip whose brightness rises steadily, so we can read the frame order from the pixels: after reversing, the first frame had a red value of 254 and the last 5, the opposite of the original. The memory chart and the size table are not measurements; they are computed from the settings the code uses.
What we do not measure: we do not score visual quality and we do not publish speed, because it depends on your device. The result card shows the size before and after, and Copy summary copies it for your notes.

How to reverse a video on iPhone?
Open this page in Safari or Chrome on your iPhone, pick the clip from Photos or Files and press Start. The reversed video goes to Downloads in the Files app, and you can save it to Photos from there.
How to reverse a video on Android?
Open this page in Chrome on Android, choose the video from your gallery or files and press Start. Download the result when it finishes; no app is needed.
How do you reverse a video without CapCut?
Use this page in any browser. CapCut has its own reverse feature inside the app, but here you get a reversed file without installing anything.
How to reverse a video on TikTok or Snapchat?
Reverse the clip here first, download it, then upload the reversed file to TikTok, Snapchat, Reels or Shorts like any other video.
Is the sound reversed too?
Yes. The audio plays backwards along with the picture. If you don’t want the backwards sound, remove it afterwards with the mute video tool.
Can I reverse a long video?
It works best for clips under a minute or two. Long videos take more time and memory, especially on phones, so cut out the part you need first.
Is this the same as a reverse video search?
No. A reverse video search looks for where a video appears online. This tool changes your video so it plays backwards.
