How to use
- Click “Choose file” or drag your .wav file onto the box.
- Pick an MP3 bitrate: 128, 192 (default) or 320 kbps.
- Press Start and click Download to save your MP3.
Shrink big WAV recordings into MP3 files that are about 5–10 times smaller. The conversion runs in your browser, so your audio never leaves your device.
WAV stores uncompressed audio. Saving it as MP3 typically cuts the file size by five to ten times, so it is easy to share and store.
Choose 320 kbps to stay close to the original WAV, 192 kbps for everyday listening, or 128 kbps for spoken recordings.
Large WAV files never have to travel to a server. The conversion happens on your own phone or computer.
No sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit. Convert as many WAV files as you need.
This WAV to MP3 converter turns large, uncompressed WAV audio into compact MP3 files that play on every phone, computer, car stereo and music app. A WAV file is about 5–10 times bigger than the same audio saved as MP3, which makes WAV awkward to email, upload to a website or keep on a phone with little storage. Converting to MP3 solves that in a few seconds.
Unlike most online converters, VidHaul does not upload your file. The conversion happens inside your browser on your own device, so even a big studio recording does not have to travel over your internet connection, and private audio stays private.
To change the next WAV to MP3, press Convert another file. There is no limit on how many files you convert.
You do not need to install a program. On Windows 11, open this page in Edge, Chrome or Firefox. On a Mac, use Safari, Chrome or Firefox. On Android, use Chrome, and on iPhone use Safari or Chrome. The steps are the same everywhere. Phones are slower than laptops, and very large files (roughly over 1.5 GB) may be slow or fail on phones because the audio is processed in the device's memory.
WAV stores sound without compression. Every sample from the recording is kept, which is why audio editors, recorders and studio software often use it. The downside is size: a few minutes of WAV can take tens of megabytes.
MP3 uses lossy compression. It removes parts of the sound that people hardly notice and stores the rest very efficiently. The result is a much smaller file that plays almost anywhere.
| WAV | MP3 | |
|---|---|---|
| Compression | None (uncompressed) | Lossy |
| File size | Large | About 5–10× smaller |
| Best for | Recording and editing | Listening, sharing, storing |
| Plays on | Most computers | Practically every device and app |
Because MP3 is lossy, a little detail is always removed when you convert WAV to MP3. How much you notice depends on the bitrate you pick:
Keep your original WAV if you might edit the recording later. Edit from the WAV and convert to MP3 as the final step; repeatedly converting an MP3 only loses more detail.
Standard CD-quality WAV uses roughly 10 MB for every minute of stereo sound. The same minute saved as MP3 at 192 kbps takes about 1.4 MB, and at 128 kbps less than 1 MB. So a 5-minute song of around 50 MB as WAV becomes roughly 7 MB as a 192 kbps MP3 – small enough to send in most chat apps. Exact sizes depend on how your WAV was recorded; after converting, the page shows the real size before and after.
Not completely, because MP3 always discards some data. In practice, 320 kbps keeps the result so close to the original that most people cannot tell them apart on phones, laptops or car speakers.
It is free, has no sign-up and adds no watermark. There is no daily limit. It works in up-to-date Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox on computers and in Chrome or Safari on phones; very old browsers cannot run it and the page shows a message in that case. Speed depends on your device, but because nothing is uploaded, you do not wait for a large WAV to travel to a server and back.
Have an iPhone voice memo or a song in M4A format? Use the M4A to MP3 converter. To keep only part of your new MP3, for example a 30-second ringtone, open it in the MP3 cutter. And if the sound you need is inside a video, the video to MP3 converter or theMP4 to MP3 converter will extract it.
Please only convert audio you own or have the right to use.
Choose your .wav file on this page, select an MP3 bitrate and press Start. When the progress bar is full, click Download to save the MP3.

MP3 is a compressed format, so some detail is removed. At 320 kbps the difference is very hard to hear for most listeners, while the file is much smaller.
Usually about 5–10 times smaller than the WAV. A lower bitrate gives a smaller file; 320 kbps gives the largest MP3.
Use 320 kbps if you want to stay as close as possible to the WAV, or 192 kbps for everyday listening with a smaller file.
This tool only converts in one direction, to MP3. Turning an MP3 back into WAV would not restore the detail removed during compression.
Yes. It is free, needs no sign-up, adds no watermark and has no daily limit.
