This OGG to MP3 converter turns OGG and OPUS audio into MP3, the format every phone, computer and car stereo can play. OGG files are common: voice messages from WhatsApp and other chat apps are often saved as .opus or .ogg, many games and open-source programs use OGG for sound, and some recorders and websites give you OGG files. They sound good, but some players, older phones, car stereos and editing programs will not open them. When you convert OGG to MP3 the problem goes away. The same tool works as an OPUS to MP3 converter, because an .opus file is just Opus sound in an Ogg file. It runs in your browser, the file is never uploaded, and it is free with no sign-up. Below: how it works, the WhatsApp voice note steps, why the MP3 is bigger than the OGG, and what can go wrong.
How does the OGG to MP3 converter work?
The page reads the Ogg file with the Mediabunny media library and decodes the sound inside, either Opus or Vorbis, with the browser’s WebCodecs audio decoder. Opus is normally decoded at 48,000 Hz, the rate the Ogg Opus standard is built on, so the MP3 is 48,000 Hz too. The samples are then encoded to MP3 by LAME, an open-source MP3 encoder bundled with the page, at a constant 128, 192 or 320 kbps. A mono voice note stays mono.
Because the bitrate is constant, the MP3 size is bitrate x seconds / 8. Measured example from our own browser test on 24 October 2026: a 6-second WhatsApp-style OGG voice note of 66 KB became an MP3 of 142 KB at 192 kbps. Computed with the formula, 192,000 x 6 / 8 = 144,000 bytes, which is 141 KB the way the tool counts. The OGG itself works out at about 90 kbps (66 x 1,024 x 8 / 6), so the MP3 uses about twice the bits for the same sound.
How to use
Choose the OGG or OPUS
Click “Choose file” or drag the .ogg, .opus or .oga file onto the box.
Pick the audio quality
Keep 192 kbps, or use 128 kbps for voice notes and 320 kbps for music. Other formats are under “More options”.
Convert and download
Press Start, then click Download to save the MP3, or Convert another file for the next one.
Why VidHaul
OGG, OPUS and OGA
Reads Ogg files with Opus or Vorbis sound, including the .opus voice messages saved by WhatsApp and other chat apps.
Private voice notes
Messages from friends and family are converted in your browser and never uploaded to a server.
Works offline
Once the page has loaded, the conversion needs no internet connection, so you can convert OPUS files offline.
Free, no limits
No sign-up, no daily limit, nothing added to your audio. MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG, AAC and FLAC outputs.
How to convert OGG to MP3 step by step
Choose your file. Click the box at the top of the page or drag the .ogg, .opus or .oga file onto it. You see the file name and size; use Change file if you picked the wrong one.
Check the quality. MP3 is selected by default. Set Audio quality to 128, 192 or 320 kbps.
Press Start. A progress bar shows how far it has got, and Cancel stops it.
Download. The MP3 keeps the original name, for example PTT-20261024-WA0003.opus becomes PTT-20261024-WA0003.mp3. The page shows the size before and after.
WhatsApp OGG to MP3: convert voice notes
WhatsApp voice messages are stored as Opus audio in a file ending in .opus or .ogg. To convert one:
Save or export the voice message as a file. How you do this depends on your phone and WhatsApp version; on a computer, WhatsApp Web or Desktop lets you download the message.
Open this page and choose the saved file. On a phone, look in Files or Downloads.
Choose 128 kbps (plenty for speech) and press Start.
Download the MP3. It now plays in any music player, can be sent by email, put into a video or kept as a backup.
Because nothing is uploaded, this is a safe way to keep private voice messages from family and friends. If you want to turn a voice note into a video for a status, the MP3 to MP4 tool adds a picture.
How to convert OPUS to MP3 on PC, Mac and Android
Windows PC
Open this page in Chrome, Edge or Firefox on Windows 10 or 11. Drag the .opus or .ogg file from File Explorer onto the box, press Start and Download. No program needs to be installed, so you do not need an OPUS to MP3 converter for PC or an OGG to MP3 download for Windows 10.
Mac
Use Chrome or Firefox, or a recent version of Safari. Drag the file from Finder onto the page and press Start. Older Safari versions had weak Ogg support; if the page says it cannot open the file, try Chrome.
Android and iPhone
On Android, open this page in Chrome, tap Choose file and pick the file from Files. On iPhone, use Safari or Chrome and choose the file from the Files app. Voice notes are small, so phones convert them quickly.
How to convert OPUS files to MP3 offline
Many people want to convert voice messages without sending them over the internet. This page does that: open it once while you are online, and once it has finished loading, all the work happens on your device. You can switch on airplane mode and the conversion still works. The MP3 is created in your browser and saved straight to your downloads.
OGG vs OPUS: what is the difference?
OGG is a container, a kind of box for audio. Inside there is usually Vorbis sound (common in games and music) or Opus sound (common in voice messages and calls). A file ending in .opus is Opus sound in the same Ogg box; .oga is another ending for Ogg audio. Opus was designed for both speech and music, from very low bitrates for voice up to high bitrates for stereo music. You do not need to know which one your file has: the converter handles both.
Why is the MP3 bigger than the OGG file?
Opus is a modern, very efficient codec, so a voice note can sound clear at a low bitrate. MP3 is older and needs more bits for the same sound. So converting a voice note usually makes the file bigger, not smaller. That is normal, and it is the price of a file that plays everywhere.
A 6-second WhatsApp-style voice note. The OGG and the 192 kbps MP3 are from our own browser test on 24 October 2026 (Chrome desktop); the 128 and 320 kbps sizes are computed from the settings the tool uses. Sizes shown the way the tool shows them (1 KB = 1,024 bytes).

Computed from the settings the tool uses (bitrate x seconds / 8, 1 MB = 1,000,000 bytes). The result line in the tool counts 1 MB as 1,048,576 bytes, so it shows about 5% less.
For voice, 128 kbps is the sensible choice: it keeps speech clear and the MP3 smallest. If you need an MP3 that is even smaller, convert first and then use the audio compressor at 64 kbps.
Which audio quality should you choose?
Audio quality
Good for
128 kbps
Voice notes, calls, podcasts, talks
192 kbps (default)
General use, voice and music
320 kbps
Music from games or albums in OGG Vorbis
A higher bitrate cannot make a voice note sound better than it was recorded. It only reduces the extra loss from converting.
Other output formats
MP3 is the default, but under More options you can also choose WAV, M4A, OGG, AAC or FLAC. WAV and FLAC are lossless, so the Audio quality box is hidden for them and the files are much bigger. M4A and AAC suit iPhone and Apple apps. Formats your browser cannot create are hidden automatically.
How to convert MP3 to OGG
This page converts from OGG. For MP3 to OGG, open the MP3 in the MP3 cutter, keep the start at 0 and the end at the full length, and choose OGG under More options. The OGG is saved with Opus sound.
FFmpeg convert OPUS to MP3 command
On the command line, FFmpeg does the same conversion withffmpeg -i voice.opus -c:a libmp3lame -b:a 128k voice.mp3. It uses the same LAME encoder as this page. This page is simply the no-install version that also works on a phone.
How accurate is the OGG to MP3 converter?
Size. Measured 142 KB against 141 KB computed for a 6-second voice note at 192 kbps, so the size table is accurate within a few percent. Length. MP3 encoders add a few hundredths of a second of silence at the start and end; for voice notes you will not notice. Sound. Opus to MP3 is lossy to lossy, so a little detail is lost, but speech stays clear at 128 kbps.
Limits:
Older browsers, and some older Safari versions, cannot decode Opus or Vorbis. The page tells you; try the latest Chrome or Edge.
OGG files with more than two channels are mixed down to stereo, because MP3 holds only mono or stereo.
Damaged or partly downloaded files cannot be read, and the page says so.
Only files on your device can be converted, not links. Very old browsers cannot run the tool.
Why this tool is different
Voice notes are among the most private files on a phone. Typical converter sites ask you to upload them, and then they sit on a server for some time. VidHaul never receives your file: the page reads it from your device, decodes and encodes it on your device, and hands you the MP3. That also makes it quick, because a voice note does not have to travel anywhere, and it keeps working offline once the page has loaded.
It is also honest about size. Many people expect converting to shrink a file, but Opus to MP3 makes it bigger, and we show you the before and after size so there are no surprises.
What we measure
The tool reads the length of your file and checks that it has sound. After converting it shows the size before and after; Copy summary copies the file name with those sizes. Under More options,Copy link with these settings saves your Audio quality and format in a link. It does not change volume, remove noise, speed up speech or transcribe anything. To cut the important part of a long voice note, use the MP3 cutter; for other audio, try M4A to MP3 orWAV to MP3.
