Turn any MP4 video into an MP3 audio file in a few seconds. Everything happens in your browser, so your file never leaves your phone or computer.
Your MP4 is converted on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server, so it is safe for personal recordings and work files.
Save at 128 kbps for small files, 192 kbps for a good balance, or 320 kbps for the highest MP3 quality.
No sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit. Convert one MP4 to MP3 after another for free.
Use it in Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox on Windows, Mac and Linux, or in Chrome and Safari on Android and iPhone.
This free MP4 to MP3 converter takes the sound from an MP4 video and saves it as an MP3 file you can play on any phone, car stereo, laptop or music player. There is no app to install and no account to create. Unlike most online converters, VidHaul does not upload your video to a server: the whole conversion runs inside your browser on your own device. That makes it fast for everyday files and private for anything personal, such as a family video, a recorded meeting or a lesson you filmed on your phone.
People convert MP4 to MP3 for many reasons. You may want to listen to a recorded talk while walking, keep only the music from a clip of your own performance, send a lighter audio file instead of a big video, or load a recording into an audio editor. An MP3 is usually a small fraction of the size of the MP4 it came from, because the picture is dropped and only the sound is kept.
That is all it takes to change MP4 to MP3. The same steps work on a desktop computer and on a phone, as long as you use an up-to-date browser.
On Android, open this page in Chrome. On iPhone or iPad, use Safari or Chrome. Tap Choose file, pick the video from your gallery or Files, and press Start. Because the work happens on the phone itself, a long video takes longer than on a laptop, and very large files (roughly over 1.5 GB) may be slow or fail on phones because everything is processed in the device's memory. For a long recording, a computer is the more comfortable choice.
You do not need to download an MP4 to MP3 converter for Windows or a separate app for Mac. Open the page in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari, drop the video in and press Start. The MP3 lands in your usual Downloads folder, ready to add to a playlist or audio editor.
MP3 quality is measured as a bitrate in kilobits per second (kbps). A higher number keeps more detail but makes a bigger file. Here is a simple guide:
| Bitrate | Best for | File size |
|---|---|---|
| 128 kbps | Speech, lectures, voice notes, saving space | Smallest |
| 192 kbps | Most music and general listening (default) | Medium |
| 320 kbps | Music where you want the highest MP3 quality | Largest |
Converting cannot add quality the source did not have. If the audio inside your MP4 was recorded at a low quality, saving it at 320 kbps only makes the file bigger, not better. In that case 192 kbps is usually enough.
Speed depends on your device. A modern laptop converts a typical MP4 quickly; an older phone takes longer. Very old browsers cannot run the converter at all, and the page will show a message if that happens. In that case, update your browser or try another one.
Some MP4 files, such as screen recordings made with the microphone switched off, have no audio track at all. If that is the case, the converter shows a clear “no sound” message instead of giving you an empty MP3. Check the video in a player first: if you hear nothing there, there is nothing to convert.
This page is made for MP4 files. If your video is a MOV from an iPhone, an MKV or a WebM, use thevideo to MP3 converter, which accepts many more formats. Already have audio in another format? Try M4A to MP3 or WAV to MP3. Once you have your MP3, you can trim it to the part you need with the MP3 cutter – handy for making a ringtone. And if you want to keep the video but share a smaller version, thevideo compressor can shrink it.
Please only convert videos you own or have the right to use.
For most people, a simple MP4 to MP3 converter online that needs no install is best. This online MP4 to MP3 converter is free, works in your browser and never uploads your file, so you can convert MP4 to MP3 online free on any device.
Yes. An MP4 file usually contains a video track and an audio track. Converting MP4 to MP3 keeps only the audio track and saves it as a standard MP3 file that plays on almost any device.
Open this page, choose your MP4 file, pick a bitrate and press Start. When the progress bar finishes, click Download. There is no fee, no sign-up and no watermark.
Open this page in Chrome on Android or Safari on iPhone, tap “Choose file” and select the video from your gallery or Files app. The conversion runs on the phone itself, so it can be a little slower than on a laptop.
You do not need to install anything. Open this page in Chrome, Edge or Firefox on Windows, drag the MP4 onto the box and press Start. The MP3 is saved to your Downloads folder.
192 kbps is a good default for music and speech. Choose 320 kbps for the best MP3 quality or 128 kbps when you want the smallest file, for example for a spoken recording.
Only if the original sound was good enough. Converting cannot add quality the MP4 did not have, so a video with 128 kbps audio will not sound better saved at 320 kbps.
No. The MP4 to MP3 conversion happens in your browser on your own device, and nothing is sent to a server.
This tool only goes one way, from MP4 to MP3. An MP3 has no picture, so turning it into an MP4 needs a video editor that adds an image or footage.
