JPG to PNG Converter - Convert JPG to PNG Online, Lossless and Free

Turn JPG photos into lossless PNG files when an app, editor or form asks for PNG. Free, batch of 30, nothing uploaded.

This JPG to PNG converter changes JPG or JPEG photos into PNG files inside your browser. You might need JPG to PNG because a website, sticker maker, design tool or game mod accepts only PNG, or because you will edit a picture many times and don’t want it to get worse with every save. To convert JPG to PNG here, drop the photos in and download the PNG files, one by one or as a ZIP of up to 30. Before you do, it helps to know one thing many converters don’t say: PNG keeps every pixel, so a PNG photo is much bigger than the JPG it came from. Below we show how much bigger, explain exactly what the tool does with your pixels, and answer the most searched question about this format change honestly: can JPG to PNG make the background transparent?

How does the JPG to PNG converter work?

Your browser decodes the JPG into pixels and turns phone photos the right way up using the orientation stored in the photo. The tool draws those pixels onto a canvas of exactly the same width and height and asks the browser to save the canvas as PNG. PNG is lossless, so there is no quality setting: every pixel in the PNG is exactly the pixel the JPG decoded to. The name stays the same with a new ending, so photo.jpg becomes photo.png.

Lossless here means “no new loss”. The JPG already lost some detail when it was first saved, and that can’t come back. What PNG gives you is a stable copy: crop it, write on it, save it ten times, and it stays exactly as sharp as it is now.

Worked example (measured). On 3 November 2026 in Chrome on a Windows PC we converted two test JPGs. A 600×900 JPG of 107.8 KB became a PNG of 785.1 KB, about 7.3 times bigger. A 2000×3000 JPG of 672.9 KB became a PNG of 3.83 MB, about 5.7 times bigger. Both PNGs had exactly the same width and height as the JPGs.

How to use

  1. Add your JPG photos

Drop, choose or paste (Ctrl+V) JPG or JPEG files into the box, up to 30 at once. Phone photos are turned the right way up automatically.

  2. PNG is already chosen

The images are converted at once. PNG is lossless, so there is no quality slider; More options lets you switch to JPG or WebP.

  3. Save the PNG files

Click Download on each row, or Download all (ZIP) for two or more. Copy summary copies every name with its size before and after.

Why VidHaul

No new loss, ever

PNG stores each pixel exactly. You can open, edit and save the PNG as often as you like and it never gets blurrier, unlike a JPG saved again and again.

Honest about transparency

The PNG looks exactly like your JPG, background included. We say clearly that a format change can’t remove a background, so you don’t download the wrong thing.

Real size shown

Every row shows the size before and after. PNG photos are big (672.9 KB became 3.83 MB in our test), and you see that before you send the file anywhere.

Private and free

Everything runs in your browser on your own device. No upload, no account, no watermark and no limit on use.

Convert JPG to PNG transparent: the honest answer

“Convert JPG to PNG transparent”, “JPG to PNG transparent background” and “JPG to PNG remove background” are among the most common searches for this format change. Here is what really happens. PNG can store transparency, JPG cannot. So a JPG never contains a see-through area: its background is real pixels, usually white or a colour. When you change JPG to PNG, those pixels are copied exactly, so the white background stays white.

To make the background transparent, something has to decide which pixels belong to the subject and which to the background, and then erase the background. That is background removal, a different job that this page does not do. We would rather say this clearly than let you download a PNG and find the white box is still there. If you already have a PNG or WebP with transparency, our converters keep it; the problem only exists when the starting file is a JPG.

When you actually need JPG to PNG

  • A site or app accepts only PNG. Some upload forms, sticker and emoji makers, design tools, printing templates and game mods ask for PNG files.
  • You will edit the picture many times. Each time a JPG is saved again it is compressed again. Keep a PNG as your working copy and export a JPG only at the end.
  • You will add text, arrows or shapes. Sharp lines and small text stay crisp in PNG, while JPG adds faint marks around edges.
  • You want a master copy. A PNG stops the quality from slowly getting worse over the years of copying and editing.

If none of these apply, keep the JPG. It is far smaller and opens everywhere. For a lighter modern file instead, try JPG to WebP.

JPG to PNG under 1 MB, 100 KB or 50 KB

Some forms ask for a “PNG under 1 MB” or even under 100 KB. Because PNG keeps every pixel, the only real way to make a PNG photo smaller is to use fewer pixels. In our test even a 600×900 picture was 785.1 KB as PNG, so 100 KB or 50 KB is usually not reachable for a photo. What you can do:

  1. Resize first. Open the image resizer, choose Width (for example 800) and set the output to PNG under More options. Half the width means only a quarter of the pixels, so the PNG gets much smaller.
  2. Ask if JPG is allowed. Many forms that say PNG also accept JPG. If so, the image compressor hits an exact KB target.
  3. Graphics are different. A simple logo or a scanned signature with few colours can be a small PNG; photos can’t.

How to convert JPG to PNG in mobile or laptop

Android and iPhone

Open this page in Chrome or Safari, tap the box and choose photos from the gallery, Photos or Files. iPhone HEIC photos open too and are turned upright before they are saved as PNG (or use HEIC to PNG). The PNG files go to your Downloads folder or the Files app.

Windows laptop and Mac

Drag the JPG files from File Explorer or Finder into the box, or paste a copied picture with Ctrl+V. Paint, Preview and Photoshop can also save as PNG, but one file at a time; here a batch of 30 takes a single drop.

Batch conversion and file names

Add up to 30 photos at once by dropping, choosing or pasting. Each row shows a thumbnail, the size before and after and the pixel size, and you can switch the output under More options to JPG or WebP at any time; the list converts again by itself. With two or more results, Download all (ZIP) saves them together. Copy summary copies the list, and Copy link with these settings (under More options) saves your output choice in a link.

How accurate is the JPG to PNG converter?

The conversion is exact in the sense that matters: the PNG has the same width, height and pixels as the decoded JPG. Some limits:

  • It can’t undo JPG damage. Blocky marks and blur already in the JPG are copied into the PNG.
  • Camera data is not copied. The PNG is a fresh file made from the pixels, so EXIF details such as GPS location, camera model and date taken are left out. That is good for privacy, but keep the original JPG if you need the date.
  • Size can’t be predicted exactly. It depends on how much detail and noise the photo has; our 5.7× and 7.3× are examples, not a rule.
  • Huge photos need memory. A 48-megapixel photo as PNG can be tens of megabytes and may be slow on an older phone.

Why this tool is different

Typical online JPG to PNG converters upload your photo, convert it on a server and send the result back. This tool decodes and saves the image inside your browser, on your own device, using the browser’s built-in image functions. Your photos don’t travel over the internet, there is no download of a big PNG from a server, and nobody else gets a copy. After the page has loaded, the conversion works without a connection.

We also try to be straight with you. Many pages promise “JPG to PNG transparent” as if a format change could cut out a background. It can’t, and we say so. We show the real size of each PNG so you know before you upload it somewhere that it may be too big, and we point you to the resizer when it is.

What we measure

The tool measures each file’s size in bytes and its width and height, before and after. That is what you see in each row and in Copy summary (1 KB = 1000 bytes). We do not remove backgrounds, add transparency, sharpen, upscale or shrink your pictures, and we don’t analyse or collect anything about them.

Frequently asked questions

How to convert JPG to PNG?

Drop your JPG files into the box at the top of this page. PNG is preselected, so the PNG versions appear right away; click Download or Download all (ZIP).

How to convert JPG to PNG with a transparent background?

A format change alone can’t do it, because a JPG has no transparent pixels to keep. This converter copies the picture exactly, so a white background stays white; removing a background needs a separate background-removal tool.

Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?

No. The PNG is an exact copy of what the JPG already shows, including any blur or blocky marks. It only stops new loss from being added when you edit and save again.

Why is the PNG so much bigger than my JPG?

JPG throws away detail to stay small, PNG keeps every pixel. In our test a 107.8 KB JPG became a 785.1 KB PNG, about 7 times bigger, which is normal for photos.

How to convert JPG to PNG in mobile?

Open this page in Chrome or Safari on your phone, tap the box and pick the photos from your gallery or Files. The PNG files go to your Downloads or Files app; no app is needed.

How to convert JPG to PNG in laptop?

Open the page in any current browser and drag the JPG files from your folder into the box. It works the same on Windows and Mac.

Can I make a JPG to PNG under 100 KB?

For photos that is hard, because PNG is lossless. Make the picture smaller in pixels with the image resizer and save as PNG there, or use JPG or WebP if the site accepts them.

Is this JPG to PNG converter free?

Yes. It is free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit, and your photos never leave your device.
